About the Owner
Terry Whearley is convinced that there is a better way to serve small businesses and organizations in Fairfax and surrounding areas that are becoming increasingly dependent on technology.  To deliver this ‘better way’, Terry is committed to being your trusted resource and IT solution provider for local businesses.  He and his team can solve your computer and network frustrations and let you focus on your real business – so that your business can remain competitive and grow.

With over 25 years of IT experience, Terry is a proven leader in delivery and operations of IT. He has a strong record of accomplishment in IT systems, sales, financial systems and management, research and development, customer service, and quality assurance. He holds a Master’s Degree in Computer Science, is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP), and is also certified in ITIL v3.  For years, Terry has advised enterprise Chief Information Officers on effective IT use, and has delivered enterprise IT services to some of nation’s largest companies and highest-profile government agencies.  But he has also worked with and for smaller companies for many years, and understands the challenges small companies face. To meet those challenges, Terry applies ‘lessons learned’ from delivery of reliable enterprise IT to help smaller businesses improve their efficiency, increase productivity and revenue, and reduce costs.

The increasing challenges of guarding network security and operations, ensuring reliable data and recovery, and effective use of new technologies - like mobile devices and cloud technology - have only increased the value of experts you can rely on. To deliver that expertise, we focus on understanding your business, and then offer tailored solutions to manage the challenges that technology can bring to your business.

With proven IT capabilities and experience running smaller businesses, Terry and the rest of our local team of IT professionals are dedicated to being “your technology team”.  We let you focus on your business while CMIT Solutions of Fairfax keeps your IT investment working smoothly.

You wouldn’t expect a mechanic to repair an engine with his bare hands, and salespeople are no less dependent on tools to be effective.

Do you use your iPad primarily to check email or surf the web? Or perhaps you use it mostly to entertain yourself with books and movies while traveling for business?

The iPad is indeed a great tool for keeping in touch with people and entertaining yourself. But you can also use it to attract new clients, provide excellent customer service, and even increase your productivity at work.

ART Liscano knows he's an endangered species in the job market: He's a meter reader in Fresno, California.

For 26 years, he's driven from house to house, checking how much electricity Pacific Gas & Electric customers have used.

But PG&E doesn't need many people like Mr Liscano making rounds anymore. Every day, the utility replaces 1200 old-fashioned meters with digital versions that can collect information without human help, generate more accurate power bills, even send an alert if the power goes out.

Five years after the start of the Great Recession, the toll is terrifyingly clear: Millions of middle-class jobs have been lost in developed countries the world over.

You know the old saying, “All politics is local”? Well, now it’s not just politics. All business is local – and if you’re not using Google to reach out to prospects in your immediate local area, you’re missing out on a huge (and free) opportunity to expand your customer base. Over the past couple of years, we’ve seen a few convergent trends emerge. First, people are more interested in what’s...

Windows Vista never quite caught on the way that Microsoft had hoped. The User Account Control (UAC) feature, which was supposed to enhance security by prompting users before allowing many programs to open, instead proved such an ...

Closing the loop. Dropping the ball. Falling through the cracks. Pick your phrase, but it all boils down to the same problem: tracking every process from beginning to end and making sure that somebody is assigned responsibility for every task. This is a particular challenge with IT issues, which are often dealt with on an ad-hoc basis. Is there a way to streamline and manage the way your company...

After years of reminders to run system scans and update your virus and malware definitions, you may finally be performing these tasks with some regularity. However, while you're busy installing updates to your browser and your security settings, make sure you're not forgetting to update Adobe Acrobat Reader, Flash, and other popular software products....

After the attempted bombing of an airliner headed from the Netherlands to Detroit on Christmas Day, many travelers were left wondering how (or if) heightened security measures would affect future flights. This question is particularly urgent for business travelers, who tend to travel farther and more frequently than anybody else....

"For our [clinical research facility], it was better to have a preventive plan in place so that if something did break, we would be ahead of it, and it wouldn’t break instead of waiting for something to happen and then fix it. So, now CMIT is monitoring everything, and we haven’t had any issues so they can catch the problem before it even happens. "
"CMIT is all about peace of mind, and literally, it doesn't cost you anything because you are saving the money on me working on the computer when I'm losing business. In today's economy, you don't want to be late sending bills out, you've got to be out there because if you start falling behind you're going to see the amount of income drop dramatically. So, Greg and CMIT make us look more...
"Whereas our systems were originally only getting backed up on a monthly basis, CMIT was able to come in and now they are automatically backed up to the server. We had a center in the DFW area that did lose everything. They made a phone call to CMIT, and CMIT was able to restore their data within a couple of hours. We’re monitored on a 24/7 basis, so even if there was something that were to...
"The way CMIT does business is just much more suitable for our type of business environment. We have deadlines and critical schedules to meet, and we need to be moving forward at all times. CMIT provides data on a monthly basis, which allows us to look at trends and be proactive with our decisions and our methods for improving our system. Every time my system improves, that means my efficiency...
"CMIT dealt with my local backup needs so that if I just need to get one specific piece of information, they can actually do it remotely from their office and get my people back and going. If I do have a catastrophic disaster that takes my entire building, I have laptops and everything else that I can have up immediately. I can use my web-based information storage and be back up and running...
"We pride ourselves that we are the company that gives instant customer service. We were getting to a point where it was extremely difficult, and we didn't want to lose our customer base. We wanted to also expand. I said, 'I need somebody to do something to allow us to be the company that we started out to be and to continue and to grow.' CMIT has helped us to do just that.   "
"Since partnering with CMIT, I can now not worry about whether or not my computers are working. I've got backups, monitoring, I can get reports, and I know where I'm having risks and threats. I now can rely on my IT people (CMIT) to take care of my IT problems and to keep that IT system up and running in an appropriate manner. That is something before I couldn't rely on. I now have a system!...
"We didn’t initiate offsite backups in the beginning, but with the start of the hurricane season we said, 'OK guys, we now have this wonderful system, but it's not really complete yet.' We're now able to back up our data, it's safely transported and stored offsite, and it’s all HIPAA compliant. And the NAS device can actually work as our server so we can continue to use our systems and do...
"With other IT service providers, we felt that we only got assistance when we requested it, and we normally came up with any ideas for improvements on our system rather than them. I was not impressed with the service, the communication or the end product at that point. Our experience has really set CMIT and Sue and John who run the show for them here apart from the others. They are more...
"We use large aerial imagery that can sometimes be 30 or 40 GB in size. There would be times that I would wait 30 seconds to a minute and a half for an image to appear. CMIT Solutions helped us rehabilitate the computers on hand, put in a network infrastructure, and put in faster switches. Now, it can be instantaneous to 15 seconds for a map to load. I kind of feel like I'm spoiled!   "
