Theresa Schwab

YOUR TRUSTED TECHNOLOGY ADVISOR

Dedicated to helping Austin area businesses succeed.

20 years in information technology at Fortune 500 companies
Skilled in both computers and business
Delivers on target and on time

Theresa Schwab holds a 20-year track record of extinguishing IT fires, saving companies millions of dollars, and earning the trust of executives leading some of the world’s largest corporations.

As president of CMIT Solutions of Downtown Austin, Theresa leads a team specialized in preventing and solving information technology problems for a variety of small- and mid-sized businesses. She excels at managing teams and crises diplomatically and values her relationships with clients, who often regard her as a member of their own staff. With a keen sense of business, Theresa helps her clients leverage technology to achieve their larger company objectives

Some of her clients include business owners whose computer repair technicians failed to solve their problems. For example, one Austin attorney called Theresa after his IT vendor spent numerous billable hours trying unsuccessfully to fix a server problem. The technician then recommended buying a new server but was too busy to help the attorney assemble it. To the attorney’s surprise, Theresa’s team fixed his original server in two hours, enabling him to return his new one and pocket the substantial difference.

Theresa draws from two decades in positions at Fortune 500 companies, including DuPont and Motorola/Freescale Semiconductor, where she proved her ability to react quickly and handle stressful situations. Among her successes

Theresa led a team at Motorola/Freescale making technology upgrades and software improvements to eliminate bugs causing downtime. The result was a year-on-year improvement of 40 percent less downtime, saving the company millions of dollars in revenue

Theresa led the IT team at Freescale that responded when a major fire caused the transformer to catch fire and go down, resulting in electrical power loss throughout the facility and threatening the company’s data integrity. After executing the disaster recovery plan and working through the night, Theresa and her team restored the facility’s computer systems with no data lost or corrupted.

Theresa is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce and Texas Women in Business.

Theresa earned her bachelor of science degree in computer science from Southern Methodist University. A native Texan, she grew up in the Dallas area and moved to Austin in 1990. She treasures her husband Buddy and two awesome teenage boys, Paul and Mark, and enjoys hiking, camping and sports.

FREE Business Technology & Security Assessment Gets You Started

At no cost or obligation, we’ll come on site to perform a complete Business Technology & Security Assessment (a $297 Value) to see if your network is properly maintained for maximum speed, security, and performance. We’ll look for hidden problems like spyware, failing hard drives, or out-of-date security patches, as well as check your network’s security, system back ups, and other critical maintenance issues that can turn into extended downtime and expensive repair bills.

Upon completion, we’ll give you a detailed Network Report Card that will show where you are vulnerable to security attacks or other failures, as well as provide recommendations on how to resolve these issues as quickly and inexpensively as possible.

We’ll also quote you a fixed monthly fee to support your entire office based on the number of PCs, complexity of your network, and age of your hardware and software so you never have to worry about network problems again.

You Are Under No Obligation To Do Or Purchase Anything When You Say “Yes” To This Offer – But You Have To Hurry…

Although we are eager to introduce our new Computer Freedom program to all of our clients, time and staff limitations simply will not allow us to give away more than 5 of these free assessments this month. Once those 5 are given away, all others will be put on a stand-by list until the following month, or until we complete these initial assessments.

Again, you are under no obligation to sign up for this program when you say “yes” to this free assessment. We don’t expect everyone to sign up for this program, but enough will to more than justify giving away this service for free.

I got an email that Microsoft was running a contest (it ended 5 July) for small businesses to win 5,000 gallons of gas. That's what When I got an email about $20,000 - depending on if your gas id $3.79, $4.79 or etc. However, the contest is over - sorry.

In any case, I think the contest site is worth 5 seconds to check out - Bumptheslump.com. The tips it gives, such as using Microsoft Outlook to track makreting efforts, using Microsoft publisher to do in house printing and using Small Business Server to have a virtual office are quite focused on generating awareness for Microsoft products. However, the tips, nevertheless are useful.

Earlier this week I downloaded a regular supply of Microsoft updates for Windows XP. As has been the usual case, the updates were downloaded automatically via Microsoft's automatic update utility. I've been using this utility for years with no problem, but recently, every now and then programs simply, just don't work.

Wedding vows. The short-but-meaningful phrases we promise to our loved one the day we tie the knot. Be it in sickness and in health or for richer or for poorer, we make a pact to stick together through it all.

But what about the trials and tribulations of 40-hour work weeks with sick kids at home, and late night board meetings while dinner's expected on the table by six? Making it work through those times could be the ultimate test.

"For our [clinical research facility], it was better to have a preventive plan in place so that if something did break, we would be ahead of it, and it wouldn’t break instead of waiting for something to happen and then fix it. So, now CMIT is monitoring everything, and we haven’t had any issues so they can catch the problem before it even happens. "
"CMIT is all about peace of mind, and literally, it doesn't cost you anything because you are saving the money on me working on the computer when I'm losing business. In today's economy, you don't want to be late sending bills out, you've got to be out there because if you start falling behind you're going to see the amount of income drop dramatically. So, Greg and CMIT make us look more...
"Whereas our systems were originally only getting backed up on a monthly basis, CMIT was able to come in and now they are automatically backed up to the server. We had a center in the DFW area that did lose everything. They made a phone call to CMIT, and CMIT was able to restore their data within a couple of hours. We’re monitored on a 24/7 basis, so even if there was something that were to...
"The way CMIT does business is just much more suitable for our type of business environment. We have deadlines and critical schedules to meet, and we need to be moving forward at all times. CMIT provides data on a monthly basis, which allows us to look at trends and be proactive with our decisions and our methods for improving our system. Every time my system improves, that means my efficiency...
"CMIT dealt with my local backup needs so that if I just need to get one specific piece of information, they can actually do it remotely from their office and get my people back and going. If I do have a catastrophic disaster that takes my entire building, I have laptops and everything else that I can have up immediately. I can use my web-based information storage and be back up and running...
"We pride ourselves that we are the company that gives instant customer service. We were getting to a point where it was extremely difficult, and we didn't want to lose our customer base. We wanted to also expand. I said, 'I need somebody to do something to allow us to be the company that we started out to be and to continue and to grow.' CMIT has helped us to do just that.   "
"Since partnering with CMIT, I can now not worry about whether or not my computers are working. I've got backups, monitoring, I can get reports, and I know where I'm having risks and threats. I now can rely on my IT people (CMIT) to take care of my IT problems and to keep that IT system up and running in an appropriate manner. That is something before I couldn't rely on. I now have a system!...
"We didn’t initiate offsite backups in the beginning, but with the start of the hurricane season we said, 'OK guys, we now have this wonderful system, but it's not really complete yet.' We're now able to back up our data, it's safely transported and stored offsite, and it’s all HIPAA compliant. And the NAS device can actually work as our server so we can continue to use our systems and do...
"With other IT service providers, we felt that we only got assistance when we requested it, and we normally came up with any ideas for improvements on our system rather than them. I was not impressed with the service, the communication or the end product at that point. Our experience has really set CMIT and Sue and John who run the show for them here apart from the others. They are more...
"We use large aerial imagery that can sometimes be 30 or 40 GB in size. There would be times that I would wait 30 seconds to a minute and a half for an image to appear. CMIT Solutions helped us rehabilitate the computers on hand, put in a network infrastructure, and put in faster switches. Now, it can be instantaneous to 15 seconds for a map to load. I kind of feel like I'm spoiled!   "
