Daren & Tina Russell

After playing a crucial roll in the development of Best Buy's Geek Squad, Daren and Tina Russell began looking for a way to provide the small business market with resources that are normally reserved for Fortune 500 companies. After much research, Daren and Tina opted for a CMIT Solutions franchise and began CM IT Solutions of Castle Rock/Parker in 2005.

CMIT Solutions is a nationwide provider of information technology (IT) services and solutions for small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs). With more than 800 consultants and technicians, CMIT has expertise in nearly all technologies and industries.  Founded in 1996 in Austin, TX, CMIT Solutions, Inc. has grown into the leading IT solution provider for SMBs. With over 10 years of experience and strong industry partnerships, CMIT Solutions is capable of providing enterprise-level services and products that were previously unavailable to the SMB market. We are a local company with the support of a national network behind us. We focus on making your business run better by understanding your business and technology needs.

"Owning a franchise vs. a start up business is quite dramatic," Tina explains. "With a CMIT franchise you are provided a winning format that has been tested and constantly refined. This provides a strong foundation to build your business on, with proven techniques, guidelines and support. Companies such as Dell, Microsoft,Symantec, AVG, and Intuit have recognized the value of CM IT Solutions, as well, giving us preferred vendor status. This means that CM IT Solutions has direct IT Support and purchasing power that allows us to customize solutions for our individual clients, while saving them money and giving them a complete one stop resource for hardware, software, peripherals, and state-of-the-art managed services."

Daren says,"Having been part of the "geek" service industry, I quickly saw a gap in the the IT services being offered by the large corporate "geeks" and what small business clients need.  Rather than focusing on setting profit goals with minimally trained employees, our focus is to listen, evaluate and provide world class IT services to our clients that will increase productivity, minimize down time, and streamline processes.  Having a business background, CM IT Solutions of Castle Rock and Parker is in a position to understand what it takes to run a business and how important a computer network is to business success. By working with business owners and decision makers, CM IT Solutions of Castle Rock and Parker is able to apply technology to fulfill their needs, maximize efficiencies and increase profits."

You wouldn’t expect a mechanic to repair an engine with his bare hands, and salespeople are no less dependent on tools to be effective.

Pretty much everyone in Sam Gupta’s family – his brothers and father especially – runs their own business. So after working in IT project management while his wife completed medical school and moved the family to Pittsburgh to take a job at the VA Hospital there, Gupta looked to jumpstart his own entrepreneurial path. The only catch was Gupta didn’t want to spend years building the business to profitability.

Do you use your iPad primarily to check email or surf the web? Or perhaps you use it mostly to entertain yourself with books and movies while traveling for business?

The iPad is indeed a great tool for keeping in touch with people and entertaining yourself. But you can also use it to attract new clients, provide excellent customer service, and even increase your productivity at work.

ART Liscano knows he's an endangered species in the job market: He's a meter reader in Fresno, California.

For 26 years, he's driven from house to house, checking how much electricity Pacific Gas & Electric customers have used.

But PG&E doesn't need many people like Mr Liscano making rounds anymore. Every day, the utility replaces 1200 old-fashioned meters with digital versions that can collect information without human help, generate more accurate power bills, even send an alert if the power goes out.

Five years after the start of the Great Recession, the toll is terrifyingly clear: Millions of middle-class jobs have been lost in developed countries the world over.

One week ago, Google announced that its company and at least 20 others were victims of a "highly sophisticated and targeted attack" originating in China in mid-December, evidently to gain access to the e-mail accounts of Chinese human rights activists. Until now, Google has run a "censored version" of its search engine in...

In the past few years, as texting has become more and more prevalent, different companies have emerged to try to capitalize on the trend.  Outside of phone companies charging a user for SMS, other businesses have designed systems for users to text a specific code to a number and receive something in return, most popularly, music/ringtones and pictures. This week, as the world watched in horror...

In the past few years, we've seen tremendous advances that allow people to communicate more effectively -- from smartphones to collaborative workspaces to content management systems, it's easier than ever for people to record and share ideas. And yet still, if you ask someone what communication technology is absolutely essential to their business, chances are they'll say email. Email not only...

If you own a laptop, you've no doubt suffered the whims of the Battery Gods at one time or another. You fully charge your battery, depart for a long trip, and as soon as you get on the plane you discover that your battery is nearly empty. What happened? And how can you prevent it from happening again? The sad truth is that all batteries, no matter how well made and well tended, will eventually...

"For our [clinical research facility], it was better to have a preventive plan in place so that if something did break, we would be ahead of it, and it wouldn’t break instead of waiting for something to happen and then fix it. So, now CMIT is monitoring everything, and we haven’t had any issues so they can catch the problem before it even happens. "
"CMIT is all about peace of mind, and literally, it doesn't cost you anything because you are saving the money on me working on the computer when I'm losing business. In today's economy, you don't want to be late sending bills out, you've got to be out there because if you start falling behind you're going to see the amount of income drop dramatically. So, Greg and CMIT make us look more...
"Whereas our systems were originally only getting backed up on a monthly basis, CMIT was able to come in and now they are automatically backed up to the server. We had a center in the DFW area that did lose everything. They made a phone call to CMIT, and CMIT was able to restore their data within a couple of hours. We’re monitored on a 24/7 basis, so even if there was something that were to...
"The way CMIT does business is just much more suitable for our type of business environment. We have deadlines and critical schedules to meet, and we need to be moving forward at all times. CMIT provides data on a monthly basis, which allows us to look at trends and be proactive with our decisions and our methods for improving our system. Every time my system improves, that means my efficiency...
"CMIT dealt with my local backup needs so that if I just need to get one specific piece of information, they can actually do it remotely from their office and get my people back and going. If I do have a catastrophic disaster that takes my entire building, I have laptops and everything else that I can have up immediately. I can use my web-based information storage and be back up and running...
"We pride ourselves that we are the company that gives instant customer service. We were getting to a point where it was extremely difficult, and we didn't want to lose our customer base. We wanted to also expand. I said, 'I need somebody to do something to allow us to be the company that we started out to be and to continue and to grow.' CMIT has helped us to do just that.   "
"Since partnering with CMIT, I can now not worry about whether or not my computers are working. I've got backups, monitoring, I can get reports, and I know where I'm having risks and threats. I now can rely on my IT people (CMIT) to take care of my IT problems and to keep that IT system up and running in an appropriate manner. That is something before I couldn't rely on. I now have a system!...
"We didn’t initiate offsite backups in the beginning, but with the start of the hurricane season we said, 'OK guys, we now have this wonderful system, but it's not really complete yet.' We're now able to back up our data, it's safely transported and stored offsite, and it’s all HIPAA compliant. And the NAS device can actually work as our server so we can continue to use our systems and do...
"With other IT service providers, we felt that we only got assistance when we requested it, and we normally came up with any ideas for improvements on our system rather than them. I was not impressed with the service, the communication or the end product at that point. Our experience has really set CMIT and Sue and John who run the show for them here apart from the others. They are more...
"We use large aerial imagery that can sometimes be 30 or 40 GB in size. There would be times that I would wait 30 seconds to a minute and a half for an image to appear. CMIT Solutions helped us rehabilitate the computers on hand, put in a network infrastructure, and put in faster switches. Now, it can be instantaneous to 15 seconds for a map to load. I kind of feel like I'm spoiled!   "
